Applications are taken for a period of 2 to 4 weeks on an as-needed basis. Advertising for positions is listed in the Alton Telegraph, Advantage, and River Bend Express newspapers. 

Requirements

Police Officer and Firefighter
High school diploma or equivalent. Age 21 not yet 35. Valid Driver's license. Applicants must pass a general aptitude written examination as well as a physical agility examination. A background investigation will be required as well as an oral examination with the Commission. Employment is then contingent upon satisfactory completion of a physical examination.

Jailer
Basic requirements are the same as for Police Officer and Firefighters except that there is no maximum age.

Communication Clerk
Minimum age is 18 and there is no agility examination for this position. All other requirements are the same as for Police Officers and Firefighters.

All Other Positions
Minimum age of 18. High school diploma and other requirements as may be stated in job description which is provided with application.
