The Alton Public Works Department moved to its present location in January, 1993 as a result of a functional replacement program due the construction of the Clark Bridge. The cost of the building $4.420,693 was paid for with State and Federal funds. Before the move Street Maintenance, Sewer Maintenance, Central Garage and Animal Control were located in separate buildings at the foot of Central Avenue. Administration was located in offices at City Hall. At the present location all of these Divisions are together resulting in better communications and cooperation between all the Divisions.

The Public Works Facility is located at #2 Emma Kaus Lane (off Fosterburg Road 1/4 mile north of Rt.140). The hours of operation are 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday thru Friday. You can contact the office at 463.3530

Leaf Burning

This is a closed container burning only.

In the Fall the city provides a leaf vacuum service for leaves raked to the edge of the yard. You must call the office to be put on the schedule.

Midland Waste picks up yard waste in paper bags on Monday beginning the first Monday in April through the last Monday in November.
